Birmingham Barons

This morning we checked out of our motel in Huntsville, Alabama and began to make our way to Hoover, Alabama. Hoover is a suburb of Birmingham. The Birmingham Barons of the class AA Southern League play their home games at Regions Park in Hoover, so we’ll spend the night in a motel in Hoover.

In Huntsville, we made a couple of quick stops at the Post Office and WalMart on our way out of town. I was happy to leave Huntsville because it was 90 degrees with oppressive humidity – and it wasn’t even noon yet!

We arrived in suburban Hoover, Alabama at about 1 PM. Feeling a little taxed by the heat and humidity, we checked into our motel immediately and got several hours of rest. During that rest period, 2 tremendous thunderstorms passed through and dumped torrential rain upon Hoover, Alabama. Just as I grew concerned about a rain out for tonight’s ballgame, the storms subsided and the heat evaporated the ground quickly. Yes, we’d have a ballgame to see this evening.

At 6 PM we drove 2 miles to Regions Park, home of the Birmingham Barons. The Barons were hosting the Tennessee Smokies.

Tonight’s game took only 2 hours and 6 minutes to complete. The final score was Tennessee 3, Birmingham 0. Box Score

We’ll see these same 2 teams play tomorrow afternoon, at a different ballpark. Tomorrow’s game will take place at historic Rickwood Field in Birmingham.
