We left Idaho Falls, Idaho this morning and headed to Helena, Montana. The first section of this day’s journey took us from Idaho Falls to the Idaho-Montana state line. As we drove north on I-15 into Montana, our first scheduled stop was in Butte, Montana.

It took about 2 hours to cover the ground from the Idaho-Montana state line to Butte, Montana. It was open country with very few towns to be seen. We drove through two mountain passes that took us above 5,500 feet. The weather was mild with temperatures in the 70s and gusting winds.

I apologize for the insect roadkill on the windshield that spotted some of my photos. In the wide open country of Idaho and Montana it takes only a few minutes for your windshield to gather a lot of splatter.

We spent less than an hour in Butte and then we were on the road again.
