We checked out of our motel in Williamsburg, Virginia at 8 AM. The plan was to begin the day with a visit to nearby historic Jamestown, Virginia.

The weather forecast for today’s activities was excellent. I woke up feeling much better than I did on the previous day at Williamsburg. The worst of my illness was now behind me. I still had a few mild cold symptoms, but I felt good and the coughing was finished. Unfortunately, Mark was just starting to catch the illness as I was recovering from it.

On our way from Williamsburg to Jamestown we drove on the Colonial Parkway. We arrived at the Jamestown visitor center shortly after it opened for business. Inside the visitor center, we paid the entrance fee which covered both our visit to Jamestown and our upcoming visit to Yorktown. Then we began our brief tour of Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in the U.S.

We spent less than 1 hour at Jamestown and then drove 20 miles on the Colonial Parkway to Yorktown, Virginia, the scene of the decisive American victory against the British in 1781.
