This morning my brother Mark and I made the 50 mile drive from the East Bay to Stockton to meet our friend Joe and attend a minor league baseball game. The Stockton Ports hosted the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in a class A California League ballgame at 11:10 AM.

The early game time was part of a promotion with local schools. The schools bused their honor roll students to the game today, and the buses must return the kids to their schools before the end of the school day. That requires an early start time. Today was the third and final morning game of Stockton’s season.

Today’s game was a pitcher’s duel. The 2 teams combined for just 11 hits and the game lasted only 2 hours and 28 minutes. Stockton defeated Rancho Cucumonga, 2-1. Box Score

The attendance today was 5,402. We overheard a Stockton Ports employee saying that approximately 4,000 of today’s attendees were school kids. Of course, the school kids didn’t play much attention to the ballgame because they’re busy running around with their friends and doing the things that kids do. The important thing is that I didn’t see any kids that weren’t having a great time at the ballpark today. They all loved it.
