It was 2:30 PM when our Erie Canal Cruise ended in Lockport, New York. We had almost 3 hours of driving to do to get to Syracuse, New York where we’d see a ballgame at 7 PM. As we left Lockport we made a quick stop for lunch and then started rolling to Syracuse.
We arrived in the Syracuse area at 5:15 PM. We checked into a Knight’s Inn in Liverpool New York. Liverpool is a suburb of Syracuse. We got an hour of rest and then drove to the ballpark. The Syracuse Chiefs were hosting the Norfolk Tides in an International League game. This is class AAA baseball.
Adding to our baseball experience, there was a live rock band playing outdoors 2 blocks from the stadium and we could hear the band pretty well from our seats at the game. I don’t know which bands were playing (probably local bands) but they weren’t bad. We heard a lot of well-known classic rock and heavy metal songs blasting away from down the street.
Norfolk scored a run in the top of the 1st and Syracuse countered with 3 runs in the bottom of the first. Norfolk pulled away when they tallied 3 runs in the 3rd, 3 more runs in the 4th, and 3 more runs in the 5th to take a 10-3 lead. Syracuse never scored again after their 3 run outburst in the 1st. The final score was Nofolk 12, Syracuse 3.
We didn’t waste any time returning to our motel when the game ended. We were at the end of fantastic day that included a boat ride at Maid of the Mist, another boat ride on the Erie Canal, and a ballgame. Now we needed some sleep. Tomorrow brings the longest driving day of our entire trip.
