This morning we checked out of our hotel in downtown Chicago, picked up a rental car, and drove to Grand Rapids, Michigan. Our drive to Grand Rapids included a small stretch of road in Indiana, so we were in three different states today: Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan. When we arrived in Grand Rapids, we relaxed for a few hours at our motel before heading to a ballgame.
This evening we attended a minor league ballgame in Comstock Park, Michigan. Comstock Park, a suburb of Grand Rapids, is the location of Fifth Third Ballpark where the West Michigan Whitecaps play their home games. The Whitecaps are members of the Midwest League, class A ball. Tonight, the Whitecaps hosted the Dayton Dragons.
Tonight’s ballgame was quick and it was a shutout. The final score was West Michigan 4, Dayton 0. Box Score
Fifth Third Ballpark is an enjoyable place to watch a ballgame, although it could use some lighting improvements. The playing field is rather dimly lit when night falls.
Tomorrow morning we’ll check out of our Grand Rapids motel, visit the Gerald Ford Presidential Library & Museum before we leave town, and then drive to South Bend, Indiana to enjoy another evening of Midwest League baseball.
